They came. They saw. They shopped until they dropped.
The Southeast Queens nonprofit BlaQue Community Cares is organizing a cash mob at Earnest Foods in Jamaica on Sunday, Nov. 24, from 2 pm to 4 pm.
Similar to the cellphone-driven flash mobs that take place around the world, this event – BlaQue Cash Mob – aims to provide a local, independent business with a financial shot in the arm.
Attendance is free, but participants are encouraged to buy $20 worth of products from Earnest, an organic grocery which has operated at 123-01 Merrick Blvd. since 2021. (The owner, Earnest Flowers, has partnered with various minority-owned brands in Southeast Queens.)
Organizers request that individuals register here.
BlaQue Community Cares is part of the BlaQue Resource Network, a larger nonprofit that long-time Springfield Gardens resident Aleeia Abraham founded in 2019. Other related entities include BlaQue NY, BlaQue Label Apparel, and BlaQue Vending Co.
“This is about more than a day of shopping,” Abraham stated. “It’s about using our dollars to sustain businesses that support our neighborhoods.”
