Kimchi and empanadas, anyone?
The Bayside Historical Society hosts Harmonious Horizons: Celebrating Korean and Latin American Songs on Sunday, Nov. 24, at 3 pm.
The concert pairs Ensemble Yeon, which blends Korean musical traditions, with special guest artist Nilko Andreas, a Colombian guitar virtuoso who has offered solo performances at Carnegie Hall, Prague Symphony Orchestra, and the China Shenzhen Symphonic Orchestra. Attendees can expect Korean folk tunes and contemporary art songs, including the classic Arirang, along with passionate Argentine tangos and vibrant Colombian folk melodies.
Admission is $15.
Harmonious Horizons is part of BHS’s ongoing Passport Concert Series, which periodically presents world music. Recent shows featured Brazilian Caribbean, Gospel, Indian, and Italian groups.
The show will go on at the awe-inspiring Castle at 208 Totten Ave. in Fort Totten. The three-story, wood-framed Gothic Revival mansion with octagonal corner pavilions is listed on the State and National Registers of Historic Places. (It’s also an NYC designated landmark.). Completed in 1887 when Fort Totten was an active military base, the structure served as the Officers’ Mess Hall and Club for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Currently, it’s the BHS’s headquarters.
