There’s a new place to bask in beauty in Queens!
Celebrate – and check out some great pieces – at FitzgeraldArt Studio‘s grand opening in Woodside this weekend.
The hostess with the mostess, Karen Fitzgerald, will display her works along with creations by three other local artists: Jim Richards, Alison Cuomo, and Deborah Barlow. All four exhibitors will be present to meet visitors and discuss and sell their works.
Fitzgerald, a long-time fixture on the Queens art scene who grew up on a dairy farm in Wisconsin, specializes in gilded oil painting embracing the tondo shape. Favoring watercolor, thinned oil paint, and mica, she creates layered surfaces that are luminous and subtle.
Richards is a photographer, sculptor, and papermaker who explores light, form, and patterns. His art captures moments of wonder and magic, inviting viewers into his creative process.
Inspired by nature’s vastness, Cuomo’s paintings immerse viewers in organic landscapes, created through a fluid, layered process of wet paper and paint. Her work explores light, darkness, and color, reflecting her connection to the natural world and her journey of discovery.
Barlow explores the unseen realms beyond sensory perception, creating “map visions” that hint at other dimensions. Her paintings blend intuitive responses and meticulous technique to evoke mysterious, numinous aspects of existence.
Attendance is free. Items will be on sale with a few planned giveaways. Open hours are Friday, Nov. 29, from 4 pm to 8 pm; Saturday, Nov. 30, from 11 am to 6 pm; and Sunday, Dec. 1, from 11 am to 6 pm.
FitzgeraldArt Studio is located at 28-51 Hobart St. in the vicinity of 30th Avenue and 56th Place. The M and R train’s Northern Blvd station is about five blocks away.
“This event not only provides a chance to experience our work but also supports the wonderful initiative of Artists Sunday [a nationwide initiative to support local artists], helping people find one-of-a-kind pieces that will make meaningful gifts this holiday season,” stated Fitzgerald.
