NEA Jazz Master Branford Marsalis is taking his talent to Queens College.
The three-time Grammy-winning saxophonist headlines an annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day Ceremony at Colden Auditorium on Sunday, Jan. 19.
Known for telepathic interplay and extraordinary energy, the Branford Marsalis Quartet – which includes Joey Calderazzo on piano, Eric Revis on bass, and Justin Faulkner on drums – will play original compositions along with Jazz classics and maybe even a surprise or two.
Ticket prices run from $35 to $70.
The concert, which is set to begin at 4 pm, is part of a special program to honor MLK’s legacy. New York Urban League President and CEO Arva Rice (below) will deliver a keynote address at 3 pm.
Colden Auditorium is at 153-49 Reeves Ave. in Flushing. A few free parking lots are nearby.
Editor’s note: During the height of the Civil Rights movement in 1965, MLK delivered a speech on the very same stage, Colden Auditorium, which included praise for Queens College student Andrew Goodman who was killed by the Ku Klux Klan while registering African Americans to vote in Mississippi in 1964.
