What a summer! Hazy and hot. Humid and hot. Scorching and hot. Luckily, some crops do well in high temperatures.
Celebrate this summer’s bumper crop and enjoy fresh produce during Tomato Shack 2024 at M. Wells Restaurant on Sunday, Aug. 25, at 2 pm.
Tomatoes — which are technically edible berries — are the main feature, but the feast will include a variety of veggies and fruits along with long tables, charcuterie, fish, pasta, salad, tartines, tarts, terrines, and salad. (Dessert, too, of course.)
On the side, patrons can expect other forms of the harvested guest of honor in sauces and large jars.
Tickets cost $125. Click here to reserve a spot.
M. Wells is at 43-15 Crescent St. in Long Island City. Street parking is limited, but the eatery is a short walk from the Court Square/23rd Street (E, M, 7 trains) and Queensboro Plaza (N, W lines) stations. Bicycle racks are outside.
The Present + The Future
We write this post to promote a great event (happy), but we must also inform that M. Wells will close at the end of 2024 (sad).
Thanks for the memories.
It all began as a diner near Hunters Point Avenue in Long Island City in 2010. Specializing in Québécoise cuisine, the cute little joint immediately created citywide buzz with maple-smoked meats, apple-scented blood pudding on savory kraut, and other north-of-the-border specialties.
Not a surprise as co-owner Hugue Dufour grew up on a farm in Lac-Saint-Jean, about six hours north of Montréal. (His wife and co-owner Sarah Obraitis is a proud Queens native. Go Queens!)
After the original lease ended, M. Wells bounced around Western Queens a bit while earning a prestigious Michelin recommendation before landing at the current spot at 43-15 Crescent St.
