#PickoftheWeek | Artists Discuss and Show their Art at Queens Museum on Sunday
BY QEDC It's In Queens
Spring is here and so are Queens Museum’s Spring exhibitions!
Check out the new displays with the displaying artists during an Opening Ceremony on Sunday, March 13.
At 2:30 pm, public performance artist Suzanne Lacy will walk through The Medium is Not the Only Message, which spans four decades of her work, everything from her earliest solo performances to more recent large-scale community-based projects. The pieces were selected for their resonance to the local context of Queens and Queens Museum’s relationships with community organizations, artists, advocates, and other hyperlocal stakeholders. It’ll be on view until Aug. 14.
At 3:15 pm, transmedia artist Stephanie Dinkins will explain her On Love and Data, which debuts three new installations paired with gems from the permanent collection, such as her interactive video installation Secret Garden, which was reconfigured to be presented alongside the Panorama of the City of New York. It’s on view until Aug. 14.
At 4 pm, Christine Sun Kim takes the audience through Time Owes Me Rest Again, a mural on the 40-by-100-foot wall encasing the 9,000-square-foot Panorama. The drawings represent the hand motions (signs) for the five words in the title (“time,” “owes,” “me,” “rest,” “again”) in American Sign Language. Reenacting the physical and psychological articulation of ASL, each word involves the signing hand coming in contact with the signer’s body. It’ll be on display until Jan. 31, 2023.
Queens Night Market vendor Cambodia Now will sell food during the event whose beer sponsor is SingleCut Beersmiths.
