#NewsFlash | Youngsters can still enjoy nature, thanks to a Queens nonprofit
BY QEDC It's In Queens
As COVID-19 demonstrates nature’s destructive power, the Alley Pond Environmental Center is sharing nature’s wonders with Queens youngsters.
APEC is offering its popular Sunny Bunnies Storytime Series every day online. Miss Bonnie and Miss Brenda read books with nature themes, act out some of the characters, and lead group songs. Special guests make appearances on some occasions.
Already, they have read books about dinosaurs, egg-hatching, and camouflage.
On the activity side, Miss Bonnie and Miss Brenda have used social media to facilitate a nature walk, an inchworm workshop, and a silly hair video.
The Douglaston-based nonprofit is also facilitating online STEM-based activities — including experiments — that youngsters can do at home. Topics include Leaf Symmetry, Sink and Float, and How to Crush a Bottle.
