#NewsFlash | Two Magical Nights In Museum of the Moving Image’s Courtyard
BY QEDC It's In Queens
Gantry. Astoria Park. Rockaway. The competition for Best Outdoor Space in Queens is heating up more than the weather these days.
Now, it’s the Museum of the Moving Image’s turn to shine. The Western Queens landmark is ready to present fun outdoor events in the comfortable, landscaped, 10,370-square-foot George S. Kaufman Courtyard on two consecutive nights next weekend.
The first one is on Friday, July 16, at 7 pm. MoMI Vice Chair Warrington Hudlin, who co-founded the Black Filmmaker Foundation, will offer an introduction before The Paper Tigers screens.
Director Tran Quoc Bao’s 2020 martial arts comedy follows three 40-something men who were best friends and Kung Fu fanatics as youngsters, but then grew apart. They reunite to investigate their Kung Fu teacher’s death. Hilarity ensues, raising the question: Do people lose their Kung Fu prowess when they get old or do they get old when they lose their Kung Fu prowess?
Patrons are welcome to bring blankets and lawn chairs. (Chairs will be available for anyone who needs an accommodation.)
Next up is Hip Hop Video Mix Party on Saturday, July 17, at 8 pm.
DJ Wiz, who created the official Video Mix Party, will cut and scratch, using the newest audio-visual technology. He’ll combine classic hits with popular modern videos, while the crowd moves and grooves.
Tickets for both events are $15 per person with discounts for seniors, students, youth, and members. MoMI is located at 36-01 35th Ave. in Astoria’s Kaufman Arts District.
