Homecoming, a community-based organization that fights hunger and promotes proper nutrition, will lead hourly Restaurant Crawls of Jackson Heights on Sunday, Sept. 19, from noon to 5 pm.
The nonprofit has chosen five eateries that serve Bangladeshi, Burmese, Colombian, Nepalese, and Pakistani cuisine and represent the “spirit, culture, and vibrancy of the neighborhood.” (They’re also near each other.)
Ticket prices are $65, and some of the proceeds will go to the Community Center Services Organization, which distributes groceries to the food insecure on Mondays at Travers Parks in Jackson Heights.
The food fun kicks off at Himalayan Yak for Nepalese momos (dumplings). Then it’s off to Yun Cafe & Asian Mart for Burmese Mohinga, a noodle-heavy fish soup. (Don’t worry, vegetarians, there’s a tea leaf salad option, too.)
The tour continues to Al Naimat Sweets & Restaurant for Pakistani sweets, and the Tong food truck for Bangladeshi fuchka, a crisp flatbread with chaat masala, chickpea, onion, potato, tamarind chutney, and other goodies. Then participants will completely fill their tummies with Colombian treats at Arepa Lady.
Each hourly tour has a 25-person maximum and slots are selling fast. Click here to register. There’s a vegetarian one.
