#Newsflash | Top-Notch Trio Plays Traditional Irish Music in Queens on June 23
BY QEDC It's In Queens
Irish eyes will definitely be smiling.
Fiddle virtuoso Brendan Mulvihill, tenor banjo standout Angela Carberry, and button accordion master Dan Brouder will join talents at the Blarney Star Concert Series at the New York Irish Center in Long Island City on Friday, June 23, at 7 pm.
This trio is on tour to celebrate the re-release of a 2,300-tune-plus Irish songbook compiled by Brendan’s father, Martin, a fiddler, teacher, and National Heritage Fellow. (While we’re at it, Martin’s mother, Bridgid, was a great fiddler, too.) Click here for the songbook.
Angela, a one-time musician of the year in Ireland, also comes from a musical family. Her father, Peter, and grandfather, Kevin, were simply fantastic on the banjo. She began with the tin whistle, but then went all in on the banjo, developing a personal style and sound.
In Dan’s case, it took a village – actually a few villages. He learned the West Limerick accordion style in various parishes all over the Emerald Isle.
Tickets cost $23.18.
Located at 10-40 Jackson Ave., the New York Irish Center has been a gathering place and cultural hub for the Diaspora and those interested in Ireland since officially opening in 2005.
If you can’t catch the trio on June 23, they’ll be at Uncle Tommy’s Tavern in Pearl River on June 25, before heading to Virginia and Maryland. Click here for the entire tour.
