It’s a round robin of sound.
The Queens New Music Festival returns with a three-day extravaganza at Culture Lab LIC this weekend (June 10, 11, and 12).
Random Access Music presents the event, an annual exposition of local composers and ensembles for several years before a Covid-induced break. This year, more than 40 performers will participate in seven concerts in the contemporary tradition with convergent music from the Experimental, Jazz, and World genres.
General admission is $20 per show, but students and seniors can attend for $10. An all-festival pass costs $50 or click here to watch via social media. The schedule follows.
Friday, June 10
7 pm: Special guest Miki Orihara dances to music by RAM composers Nerissa Campbell, Gilbert Galindo, Frances White, and guest composers Yaz Lancaster and Joji Yuasa.
9 pm: The Emilio Teubal Trio does piano and compositions with Federico Diaz on guitar and Ivan Barenboim on clarinet.
Saturday June 11
4 pm: Quintet of the Americas performs Jazz, Klezmer, Latin, and Swing by José Raul Bernardo, Ed Bland, Allen Schulz, Lev “Ljova” Zhurbin, and James Cohn.
6 pm: The Shutterspeed Duo offers music and performances by Erich Barganier and Ford Fourqurean.
8 pm: Music by guitarist Giacomo Baldelli, Eve Beglarian, John Cage, Ryan Pratt, and Nick Norton.
Sunday June 12
4 pm: A portrait concert and tribute to RAM founder Allen Schulz.
6 pm: Music by RAM composers Seth Boustead, Masatora Goya, Zhihua Hu along with guest composers Jennifer Higdon and Miho Sasaki.
Culture Lab LIC is a multi-genre arts promoter based in The Plaxall Gallery, a 12,000-square-foot venue at 5-25 46th Ave. in Long Island City. The facility includes three art galleries, a 90-seat theater, and the outdoor event space where the Queens New Music Festival is planned.
RAM, which is under the artistic direction of Thomas Piercy, is a nonprofit that supports the creation and performance of new music.
