#PickoftheWeek | The Best Fireworks Show Is In Queens (Again)
BY QEDC It's In Queens
It’s Independence Day fireworks time in New York City again, and as always, the mainstream media is reporting on Manhattan with a little Brooklyn and Jersey City. And as always again, Queens has the best spots to marvel at pyrotechnics.
The biggest game in town is the 46th annual Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks spectacular on Monday, July 4, starting at around 9:15 pm. The company Pyro Spectaculars by Souza will shoot about 48,000 mushrooms, rings, waterfalls, and other shells into the sky from five barges on the East River near Midtown Manhattan for about 25 minutes. Thus, two Long Island City public spaces — Gantry Plaza State Park and Hunter’s Point South Park — are the hottest of hot spots.
Admission is free, and large crowds are expected.
Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade veteran Ray Chew will conduct an orchestra through patriotic standards and pop sounds for background entertainment. Music by the United States Army Field Band and the Young People’s Chorus of New York City will also play. Listen to the score on 1010 WINS.
Editor’s note: Goya Foods will present patriotic-themed fireworks following the New York Mets game against the Texas Rangers at Citi Field on Friday, July 1. The scheduled start is 7:10 pm, although a press release claims the fireworks are the next day, July 2.
