#Newsflash | Salty Lunch Lady Is About to Open a Bistro in Ridgewood
BY QEDC It's In Queens
When the subject is savory, consider herby chicken meatball with smoked paprika aioli or charred and marinated Romanesco cauliflower with whipped ricotta, fried onions, and arugula on sesame focaccia.
If the theme turns to sweet, think about orange-scented olive oil cake with cranberry curd and toasted pumpkin pie spice meringue or maybe fig leaf tapioca pudding with fresh figs.
Dria Atencio of Salty Lunch Lady fame is about to open a bakery/cafe at 565 Woodward Ave. in Ridgewood this May.
Yes!
The Los Angeles native’s mouth-watering New York City food career includes stints at Sorella (Lower East Side), L’Itos (Chinatown), Niche Niche (SoHo), and the McCarren Park House (Brooklyn). Now, she’s going to settle down at a permanent Queens home where she can bake, cook, brew, mix, spice, decorate, and host weekly dinner parties.
The eatery might be called “Salty Lunch Lady’s Little Luncheonette,” but we couldn’t confirm that. (We’ll share the official name as soon as we get it.) And of course, there’s currently no set menu for the spot, which is at the Menahan Street intersection. Nevertheless, we predict that some form of the following items will be permanent, temporary or pop-up treats.
Sweet: Brown butter sour cherry sandwich cookies filled with pistachio cream; pink coconut cake with citrus curd and pink bunnies; tiered pavlova with rhubarb compote, cream, and macerated strawberries; and chocolate cake with dark chocolate ganache and peanut butter frosting.
Savory: Green goddess deviled egg salad with herbs and watercress; spinach-and-gruyere quiche with dijon mustard; and fried pickled vegetable sandwiches with giardiniera spread and garlic aioli.
