To celebrate Women’s History Month, Resorts World New York City unveiled Center Stage: The Power of Women Artists in New York and Philadelphia on March 18.
Let’s talk about it.
Resorts World NYC will host Center Stage: Artist Talk at the Red Wall Art Gallery on Saturday, June 10, at 5 pm.
Daniel “Danny” Simmons Jr., the curator, will chat with some of the displaying artists — Kate Fauvell, Lusmerlin Lantigua, Wanda Payne, and Shenna Vaughn — about their journeys, their vision, and the modern day art world. Jamaica Center for Arts & Learning Project Manager Lisa D. Wade is the moderator.
Danny is an abstract-expressionist painter, author, collector, curator, philanthropist, and poet. The Hollis product is also the older brother of Hip-Hop mogul Russell and Joseph, who’s better known as “Rev. Run” from Run-D.M.C. The Simmons brothers founded the Rush Philanthropic Arts Foundation in 1995. Danny is also involved in Rush Arts Galleries, which works with emerging talent and curators, mostly in New York City and Philadelphia.
“Danny has launched the careers of some of the world’s top artists today,” stated Resorts World NYC Vice President of Community Development Michelle Stoddart. “We’re excited to give these women a place to display their meaningful and creative works.”
Center Stage: The Power of Women Artists in New York and Philadelphia will be on display at the Red Wall through June 16. Located on two floors, the Red Wall was created in 2012 to showcase work by local artists, photographers, and textile makers in conjunction with community arts organizations. It’s located in Hyatt Regency’s Big Apple Conference Room.
Resorts World NYC’s entrance is 110-00 Rockaway Blvd. in South Jamaica. The property includes a large, free parking lot. It also has its own subway station, Aqueduct/North Conduit Avenue, on the A line.
