BY QEDC It's In Queens
It’s time for some romance.
Victor Manuelle returns to the Kupferberg Center for the Arts to present Concierto del Amor on Saturday, Oct. 22, at 8 pm.
The 16-time Grammy and Latin Grammy nominee, who is known as “El Sonero de la Juventud,” likes to put his romantic twist on Tropical music with a unique sound that’s based in danceable Salsa with large orchestral accompaniment.
Ticket prices run from $59 to $109, and the show includes a warm-up with Ralphie Mercado, a long-time, well-respected deejay and music producer.
Manuelle was born in the Bronx in 1968 as Victor Manuel Ruiz Velázquez, but he mostly grew up in Isabela on Puerto Rico’s north coast. He sings of love, seduction, infidelity, and disillusionment with such songs as “Tengo Ganas,” “Ay Amor,” “Se Me Rompe el Alma,” and “No Quería Engañarte.”
In his private life, he’s involved in De Frente Al Alzheimer, a Puerto Rico-based nonprofit that educates and provides assistance to Alzheimer’s patients. (His father died of the degenerative brain disorder.)
Concierto del Amor will take place at Queens College’s Colden Auditorium at 153-49 Reeves Ave. in Flushing. There’s a large parking lot nearby.
