#Newsflash | LIC Bulbfest Is in Queens on Nov. 5
BY QEDC It's In Queens
To enjoy beautiful, fragrant flowers this spring, gardeners must sow seeds this autumn.
Hunters Point Parks Conservancy hosts LIC Bulbfest in Western Queens on Saturday, Nov. 5, from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm.
At least 100 volunteers are expected to plant 6,000 daffodils, 4,500 tulips, and 5,850 alliums – thanks, Van Zyverden Inc. — in Gantry Plaza State Park and Hunter’s Point South Park during this eight-annual event.
All are invited, and previous experience is NOT necessary. Click here to sign up.
Volunteers will meet at the plaza in Gantry Plaza State Park near Center Boulevard and 48th Avenue in Long Island City. They’ll receive gardening tools, gloves, and instructions on how to plant bulbs. Then, they’ll disperse to the two adjoining parks.
“Last year’s blooms were highlighted by the numerous purple alliums,” stated HPPC President Rob Basch. “This year we look forward to another burst of color that welcomes spring.”
Over the last seven years, HPPC volunteers have planted nearly 57,000 bulbs in the two parks, which lie near the East River Waterfront.
