#Newsflash | Flushing Basketball Tournament Shoots Down Hatred On Saturday
BY QEDC It's In Queens
For love of round ball and disdain for racial violence, a three-on-three youth basketball tournament will take place in Flushing on Saturday, March 27.
Entitled “Hoops Over Hate,” the friendly competition will unfold at PS 20 (John Bowne Elementary) at 142-30 Barclay Ave., starting at noon.
There will be teams in four age divisions ─ Under-11; U13; U15; and U17 ─ and other planned activities include contests for half-court shot, knockout, and jelly.
The goal is to create a safe environment for youngsters to have fun while also standing against hatred. The organizers and sponsors ─ Brooklyn USA Basketball, Asians in America, Asian Community United Society, and Champion Martial Arts ─ decided to join forces in response to a recent wave of violent incidents targeting Asians across New York City.
Registration is required, and each player gets a tee shirt, bag, Brooklyn Nets bobblehead, basketball, New York Liberty hat, water bottle, medal, and trophy.
At least one parent or guardian must be present at the onset on Saturday to sign waivers and permission forms and provide proof of age.
Finally, volunteers are needed! Click here for more information.
