#InTheLoop | Radial Park Presents ‘The Blues Brothers’ Until June 26
BY QEDC It's In Queens
Chicago’s favorite native sons are taking their “mission from God” to Queens.
Radial Park will present a multi-genre version of The Blues Brothers from Thursday, May 27, until Saturday, June 26. The 1980 cult film will show on a large screen while a live band and actors from the professional troupe Resounding follow the plot in front of, around, and maybe even atop parked cars.
Radial Park is located near the East River at 27-50 1st St. in Astoria. Spread out over about 50,000 square feet, it has space for about 100 parked cars at a time and picnic tables for those who would rather attend without driving in. (The spot is steps away from a Citi Bike outlet and an NYC Ferry station.)
Watch The Blues Brothers on Fridays and Saturdays, starting at different times depending on the night, but usually around 8 pm. Ticket prices range from $30 to $150 with individual and full-car options.
The Universal Studios movie, which was directed by John Landis of Animal House fame, starred Saturday Night Live regulars John Belushi and Dan Aykroyd as Jake and Elwood Blues, who are actually characters from SNL sketches.
Jake and Elwood visit their childhood orphanage and learn that the Catholic charity is in dire financial straits. They set out to raise money to save it by getting their old group back together for a huge concert. This leads to a wild trip through the Windy City, where they re-unite with former bandmates, and songs with Aretha Franklin, Cab Calloway, Chaka Kahn, James Brown, John Lee Hooker, and Ray Charles. Of course, Neo-Nazis, a police chase, and a multi-car crash are part of the adventure.
After kicking off the season on April 30, Radial Park has already hosted four immersive productions.
