#InTheLoop | Popular Korean Grocery Store to Open in Western Queens
BY QEDC It's In Queens
The bad news is that a Western Queens Stop & Shop closed on Oct. 20. The good news is that an H Mart is about to open at the same spot.
H Mart, a Korean grocery empire with fanatical customers, will sell everything from noodle soup to sesame leaves in soy sauce to rice cake cookies at 34-51 48 St., where Woodside, Sunnyside Gardens, Long Island City, and Astoria meet.
Don’t forget the kimchi!
An exact opening date has not been made public yet, but the term “ASAP” certainly applies, and the owners are looking to fill many positions (i.e. administration, cashier, cleaning, grocery, meat, produce, seafood). To apply, send a resume to northeast.hr@hmart.com or call 201.314.3156 or 201.554.5270.
According to the company website, H Mart’s first store was in Woodside in 1982. It has since expanded to almost 100 branches around the United States, including four in Flushing and one in Bayside.
The new one is on 48th Street between Northern Boulevard and 37th Avenue. The Plaza 48 shopping center is on one side, while a Home Depot is on the other.
H Mart gets its name from the Korean phrase “Han Ah Rheum,” which can translate as “One Arm Full of Groceries.” It’s operated by the Hanahreum Group, which is based in Lyndhurst, New Jersey.
