#InTheLoop | New Exhibition Features Pieces From Six Queens Art Collections
BY QEDC It's In Queens
It’s kind of like an all-star game for artists.
The opening reception for The Gift: Queens College Collects is at Godwin-Ternbach Museum on Thursday, Feb. 23, from 6 pm to 8 pm.
This diverse, multi-media exhibition features holdings from Godwin-Ternbach (naturally), as well as the Queens College Fashion and Textile Collection, Queens College Art Department, Louis Armstrong House Museum, Queens College Library, and Daghlian Collection of Chinese Art.
To be on display through May 25, The Gift brings together these Queens College entities for the first time since the Flushing institute’s founding in 1937. The show includes works by Alberto Burri, Andy Warhol, Antoine-Louis Bayre, Hale Woodruff, Jacques Villon, Kara Walker, Karl Lagerfeld, Lesser Uri, Louis Armstrong, Louise Nevelson, Marcel Duchamp, Miguel Conde, Oscar de la Renta, Pat Lasch, Robert Kipniss, Robert Wilson, and Yoko Ono.
Thus, patrons can peruse everything from collages to 19th century dresses to oil-on-canvas paintings to scrapbooks.
Godwin-Ternbach’s address is 65-30 Kissena Blvd., 405 Klapper, on the Queens College campus. All its exhibitions and programs are free.
Founded in 1981, Godwin-Ternbach’s collection has more than 7,000 works of art and artifacts. The museum also holds the Daghlian Collection of Chinese Art, which spans 5,000 years of Chinese history with about 1,600 objects in such media as bronze, ceramic, ivory, jade, paper, stone, textiles, and wood.
