#InTheLoop | Knitters of the World Unite in Forest Hills, Glendale!
BY QEDC It's In Queens
On your marks. Get set. Crank out the rib stitches, I-cords, entrelacs, and Bavarian twists!
World Wide Knit In Public Day is June 10, and groups in Forest Hills and Glendale are part of the patchwork.
Missouri resident Danielle Landes launched this international effort, known as “WWKP Day,” in 2005 with about 25 events and the hope that knitters would enjoy each other’s company while doing a solitary act. Since then, the annual extravaganza has grown to several thousand groups around the world — always on the second Saturday of June.
The slogan? Better Living Through Stitching Together!
Participants celebrate WWKP Day by joining KIPs (Knit-in-Public Groups) and simply doing their thing. (Crochet and other forms are welcome. Ditto for all skill levels.)
In Forest Hills, volunteers from the Church-in-the-Gardens Prayer Shawl Ministry (above) will gather at the corner lawn on Ascan Avenue at Greenway North from 1:30 pm to 3:30 pm. All are welcome to create clothes for those in need.
Meanwhile, the Glendale KIP will meet at Cook’s Crafts at 80-09 Myrtle Ave. at 10 am. Organizers will offer a yarn-and-needle tasting, free patterns to look through, and social crafting.
