Queens has many neighborhoods, and the best way to get to know them is on foot. Before stepping out, I like to consult Walking Queens by Adrienne Onofri, Historic Houses of Queens by Rob MacKay or one of the other Arcadia books about the borough written by local historians. Here are some of my favorite
Good Eats For those who don’t know, Sunnyside has amazing, authentic food. While there are numerous tempting choices ─ such as Tito Rad’s Grill, Bistro Punta Sal, Sunnyside Pizza, Sotto Le Stelle, and 1 Buen Sabor Bakery ─ here is a small tour of the four places I frequent the most. Green Valley Marketplace of
Good Eats I had heard about downtown Flushing’s transformation well before I moved to Queens. The World’s Borough’s ongoing renaissance is one of the primary reasons I pursued the job I have at Queens College; the other reason is the power of higher education to transform lives and communities. The range of cuisines available in
Good Eats The Rockaways food scene has stepped up its game in the past two years with strong newcomers barreling into the forever-expanding food culture and making it so hard to choose! I’m a huge fan of Bernadettes (95-19 Rockaway Beach Blvd.) for the one-of-a-kind buffalo chicken sandwich. There’s truly no match for the balance
Good Eats I’m a creature of habit. If I like something – a place, a dish, an atmosphere – I’ll keep going back and never stop. During the pandemic, my go-to place was – and still is! – Espresso 77 on 77th Street in Jackson Heights. It’s not only that the owners and baristas are
Good Eats Saffron is a Spanish restaurant at 161-50 Cross Bay Blvd. in Howard Beach. There’s a great variety of tapas, all in generous portions, and I prefer the lamb empanadas. My wife likes the cornmeal-crusted calamari, and everybody likes the sangria. Bonus: there’s a parking lot! Nick’s Bistro is a Greek place at 104-20
The Queens Economic Development Corporation and Queens Tourism Council will host Queens Taste 2024 at the New York Hall of Science in Flushing Meadows Corona Park on Tuesday, May 21, from 6 pm to 9 pm.
We expect to attract more than 500 attendees with 50 restaurants and beverage purveyors, who will offer samples of their products. Thus, attendees will be able to bounce from table to table, tasting treats from tangy to fiery, crunchy to velvety, and sweet to briny.
Queens Taste is also a celebration of the borough — and a great way to network. Almost all the anticipated 500 attendees either live in Queens or do business there. Many are executives and captains of industry. The atmosphere is always festive, almost giddy, creating an ideal scene for meeting and greeting.
