It’s “Turkey vs. Christmas” this week with high-quality events spanning organized football, Mister Rogers, Charles Dickens, and homemade gifts. Curious nuns, a play inspired by Greek tragedy, and legends from the R&B and children’s music genres are also in the mix.
Nov. 23, A Christmas Carol, 7:30 pm. Back by popular demand, the North Country Center for the Arts National Touring Company presents this classic Charles Dickens tale of redemption. This version overflows with music, laughter, really scary ghosts, and an extremely grumpy old man. Queensborough Performing Arts Center, 222-05 56th Ave., Bayside.
Nov. 23, Inquiring Nuns, Dec. 2. In this documentary, two young nuns crisscross Chicago, approaching strangers on the street and in parking lots, an art institute, and churches, asking the simple question: “Are you happy?” They meet a lonely girl, a happy mother, young lovers, hippie musicians, a sociologist, and even the hard luck actor Lincoln Perry, better known as “Stepin Fetchit.” Times: Nov. 23, 3 pm and 7:30 pm; Nov. 24, 3 pm and 7 pm; Nov. 25, 3 pm and 5 pm; Nov. 28, 3 pm; Nov. 29, 3 pm; Nov. 30, 5:30 pm; Dec. 1, 1 pm; Dec. 2, 1 pm and 5 pm. Nov. 23, Thanksgiving Fun Inspired by Mister Rogers, Nov. 25. The days of screenings of an animated children’s film, “The Daniel Tiger Movie: Won’t You Be My Neighbor,” at 11 am, Family Drop-In Workshops from 11 am to 4 pm, and the documentary “Won’t You Be My Neighbor?” at 1 pm. Nov. 24, The Bliss Plaza Pop Up Holiday Market, Dec. 16. The Sunnyside Shines Business Improvement District and the Queens Night Market present this bazaar over several weekends from noon to 6 pm. More than 30 rotating vendors peddle gift items such as jewelry, ceramics, candles, and swaddlers. Bliss Plaza (under the elevated 7 train) at 46th Street and Queens Boulevard, Sunnyside.
Nov. 24, R&B Holiday Bash, 8 pm. Concert with Billboard® chart-topping artist Keith Sweat, Grammy-nominated Carl Thomas, and world-famous DJ Kid Capri. Colden Center at Queens College, vicinity of Reeves Avenue, Horace Harding Expressway, and Kissena Boulevard, Flushing.
Nov. 25, The Dan Zanes Trio Holiday Sing Along, 1 pm & 3 pm. Grammy-winning Dan Zanes and Haitian-American jazz vocalists Claudia Eliaza and Yuriana Sobrino share the stage. This multicultural celebration is highly interactive, and the audience is invited to sing and dance. Queens Theatre, 14 United Nations Ave. S., Flushing Meadows Corona Park.
Nov. 25, Stewardship Hike, 10:30 am. Explore Willow Lake Preserve, learn to identify invasive species, and remove some along the way. Pat Dolan Trail, Mauro Playground entrance, Park Drive East and 73rd Terrace, Flushing Meadows Corona Park.

Nov. 27, Electra, Dec. 1. In the original play by Sophocles, Electra and her brother revenge their mother and stepfather for the murder of their father after the Trojan War. Director Stefanie Sertich set this play in war-torn Croatia in the 1990s and dedicated it to her family members and friends.
