#PickoftheWeek | Wrestling (arm + pro) comes to Queens
BY QEDC It's In Queens
It’s Grapple in the Big Apple Weekend with Queens hosting two high-level, strength-testing, chest-thumping tournaments.
A night of professional wrestling, entitled “Three The Hard Way,” is set for the St. Sebastian Parish Center in Woodside on Friday, March 22, at 7 p.m.
Organized by Brii Combination Wrestling, the lineup includes heavyweight, tag team, and four-way fights as well as a big name rematch — five years in making — between Azrieal and AR Fox. At other times, Darius Carter will take on Austin White for the BCW World Heavyweight Championship, while Tasha Steelz will battle Riley Shepard in the women’s division.
The Ugly Ducklings will go against The SKULK (Adrian Alanis and Liam Gray) in tag team, while The Deadly Saiyan Squad (Eric Jayden, Chris “The Bushwick Beast” Barton, Dominick Denaro, Rick “Cyborg” Rekon) will get a grudge match against Team LAW. The Fatal 4 Way Championship Match features Saieve Al Sabah, Alvin Alvarez, Leon Ruff, and Ace Andrews.
Ticket prices run from $25 to $35. The venue is a large, second-floor gymnasium at 39-60 57th St., about four blocks from the 61st Street-Woodside station for the 7 train.
The beat goes on at the New York Arm Wrestling Championships at Cheap Shots Sports Bar in Briarwood on Sunday, March 24, at 1 p.m. (For the contestants, weigh-in and registration begin at 9:30 a.m.)
More than 100 contestants from around the region will compete for more than $4,000 in prizes, glory, and the respect of their peers in various categories, including male/female and weight divisions.
Located at 149-05 Union Turnpike, Cheap Shots is not near public transportation. Parking is on the street. Admission is $5.
