#PickoftheWeek | Queens chefs serve hot plates at special event in LIC on April 14
BY QEDC It's In Queens
The food is fantastic and the cause is noble.
All are invited to the Dining for Justice pop-up food hall at Sound River Studios in Long Island City on Sunday, April 14, at 5 pm.
Some of the best Queens chefs will create and serve small plates at this three-hour event, which seeks to raise funds and awareness for Immigrant Families Together, a group that provides legal services, medical assistance, clothing, food, shelter, and transportation to clients.
Tickets are $125, but children under age 13 can attend for free. The tastings are unlimited, and the night includes live music by Seth Goldberg and MG4, a cash bar, and silent auctions. Petals & Roots, an Astoria florist, will provide the floral arrangements.
Here are some of the participating foodies: M Wells master Hugue Dufour, whose meatloaf recipe just appeared in The New York Times; John Brown Smokehouse’s Josh Bowen; pitt master John Zervoulakos of Stuey’s Smokehouse; charcuterie master Rodrigo Duarte of Caseiro e Bom; and brew master Tim Artz.
Here are some of other entities that are on the menu: The Queensboro; the Elmhurst-based New York Indonesian Food Bazaar; the Astoria-based Muncan Food Corp; Ornella Trattoria; Kurry Qulture; and Sugar Freak.
Sound River Studios is located at 4-40 44th Dr.
“Chefs are big hearted people” stated Jonathan Forgash, the creator of Sunday’s event. “It is from this place that they donate their skills and efforts to help the families being detained, and separated, at the border.”
For more information, contact Forgash at 917-626-8960 and/or jonathan@seekservana.com. (He’s also co-founder of the Queens Dinner Club.)
This is the second-ever Dining for Justice fundraiser. The first one, held on Dec. 9, 2018, raised more than $17,000.
