#InTheLoop | One Weekend, Two Boulevards, Lots of Fun
BY QEDC It's In Queens
Traffic will stop for two street festivals in Queens this weekend.
The second annual Sutphin Boulevard Harvest Festival will take place between Hillside and Jamaica avenues on Saturday, Sept. 22, from 11 am to 6 pm. Organized by the Sutphin Boulevard BID, the free event will feature arts & crafts, food vendors, live music, and rides. Guests will be able to meet radio personality Dr. Bob Lee of WBLS (below photo), visit the senior cafe, and experience the children’s block. For more information, please call 718-291-2110.
Not far away, the Bell Blvd Sunday Stroll will unfold between 38th and 41st avenues on the following day, Sept. 23, from noon to 5 pm. Organized by the Bayside Village BID, this free event is part of the NYC DOT’s Weekend Walks program. Adults can sign up for a pizza-eating contest, take a Bachata group dance lesson, enjoy live music on the main stage or learn from a cooking demo. Children can choose from arts & crafts, bouncy houses, face painting, giant bubbles, a huge Spirograph, silly games, and more. With a special effort to promote local bands and dance schools, the entertainment includes Chicken Head Rocks, The Skeedle Brothers, Robert Mann Dance Centre, and Queens Dance Project. Restaurants along Bell Boulevard will organize outdoor seating. For more information, please call 718-423-2434.
