Every year, the Queens Economic Development Corporation and Queens Tourism Council produce a printed calendar. Past themes include Arts, Restaurants, Sports, and the World’s Fair.
Well, the new year is around the corner…and so is the 2025 calendar.
The theme? Off The Beaten Path!
Each month features a large photo of a Queens spot that’s little known and rarely visited – despite being interesting, beautiful or historic.
And since these places are unsung, we offer short videos with inside stories that are easily accessible via QR codes.
To get a copy, contact Rob MacKay — [email protected] — or send him a stamped, self-addressed envelope at QEDC, 120-55 Queens Blvd., Ste. 309, Kew Gardens, NY 11424.
While supplies last, of course.
Get the printed calendar and watch the complementary (and complimentary) clips. You’ll be pleasantly surprised.
Here are some of the videos.
James Brown’s House in St. Albans
The Geographic Center of New York City in Woodside
Editor’s note: It’s not in the calendar, but the above photo depicts the Metropolitan Oval, a regulation-size soccer field nestled between an LIRR freight-train line and attached row houses in Maspeth. Its story dates back to 1925, when several dozen German and Hungarian immigrants bought a few acres together and formed a de facto soccer co-op. A video on the Met Oval will be added to this post soon.
