#InTheLoop | Thalia Spanish Theatre Presents Christmas in Colombia

Here’s a sure way to have a Feliz Navidad.

Thalia Spanish Theatre presents Christmas in Colombia from Friday, Nov. 15, to Sunday, Dec. 15.

The Elmhurst-based Mestizo Art Center and special guest Maria Escobar sing and dance their way through popular holiday traditions in Colombian folklore during this show.

Tickets are $50 each, but students and seniors can attend for $45. Showtimes are Fridays and Saturdays at 8 pm and Sundays at 4 pm.

Harold Puente, who grew up in Colombia’s Cali (aka The Salsa Capital of the World), founded Ballet Mestizo in 1999. (It’s now Mestizo Art Center.) The nonprofit promotes the South American country’s folk art via performances and competitions.

Escobar, who hails from Quindío, has also performed around the world, including at the Blue Note festival in Brazil and Viña del Mar in Chile. She likes to mix Urban, Jazz, and Pop rhythms with her beloved Colombian songs.

The scheduled dancers are Luisa Fernanda Acosta, Lorena Ayub, Angelica Barrera, Melanie Caicedo, Deiner Ivan Carbali, Adrian Diaz, Willy Mena, Bryan Mendez, Ashley Ochoa, Isabella Ramirez, Miguel Sanisaca, and Santiago Valencia.

Located at 41-17 Greenpoint Ave. in Sunnyside, Thalia’s performance space has about 75 seats.
