#PickoftheWeek | The Taiwan: A World Of Orchids Show Blooms At Queens Botanical Garden All Weekend

They smell wonderful. They come in many colors. Their blooms include beautiful flowers. And they’ve been a large part of Taiwan’s culture and economy for centuries.

Learn and experience more when Queens Botanical Garden hosts Taiwan: A World of Orchids all weekend (Aug. 11 to Aug. 13).

Back for an eleventh year, this annual showcase features 990 pots along with related events such as orchid crafts, orchid bouquets, and orchid lessons. Tea ceremonies, calligraphy, music, and yo-yo tricks are also in the mix.

Plus, savvy shoppers can purchase orchids during a sale on Sunday from 4:30 pm to 6 pm.

“This year’s orchid show, ‘Colors of Taiwan,’ is inspired by the island’s iconic hues,” stated Ambassador and Director-General Tom Chih-chiang Lee from the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in New York, the event’s sponsor. “Formosan green orchid leaves reflect the lush landscapes and rich biodiversity unique to Taiwan’s mountains and forests. Discover the bountiful orange orchids, evoking the island’s agricultural abundance and cultural wealth. Immerse yourself in the deep red blooms, symbolizing prosperity and celebration, echoing the lively spirit of Taiwanese festivals. Each blossom tells a story of Taiwan’s natural beauty and cultural heritage, inviting you to experience a kaleidoscope of colors that define this enchanting land.”
