It’s time to move and groove to music from around the world…and around the corner!
The Queens United Int’l Party returns to Sunnyside Gardens Park on Saturday, Sept. 16.
Live music is the focus of this sixth-annual outdoor event, but dance, crafts, food trucks (Burrito Factory, Momo’s, Jamrock Jerk), and games are also in the mix.
General admission is $15, but children can attend for free. Costumes are cordially encouraged.
The door opens at 2:30 pm. A list of the performers follows.
Brooklyn Raga Massive, which specializes in classical Indian music with frameworks for improvisation and composition known as “ragas.” Consider it Indian Contemporary Jazz-Rock.
Brown Rice Family, which fuses Reggae, Ska, Dancehall, Hip-Hop, Afro-Beat, Jazz, Rock, Funk, and Latin styles. Consider it Roots Reggae Reborn.
Mantra Percussion, a group that honors ancient percussion via new music.
The Melting Pot, which mixes Jazz with Funk and Hip-Hop.
Los Aliens, an out-of-this-world Space-Rock band with Colombian roots.
Miss Maybell, who plays Vintage Jazz, Ragtime, and Blues with banjo, washboard, kazoo, and vocals.
Somer Suarez, an Uruguayan pianist who plays Synth-Pop, EDM, and Folk. The crowd favorite lives nearby and frequents the park with his wife and son. In fact, he’s performed at all QUIP extravaganzas.
Sunnyside Gardens Park, whose entrance is at 48-21 39th Ave., features three acres of playgrounds, sports fields, basketball courts, tennis courts, and a picnic grove. It’s a members-only, volunteer-run venue, but it opens for the public periodically for events such as QUIP.
