Put the pedal to the medal, but in reverse.
The BHS Vintage Car Show is in Bayside on Sunday, Nov. 19, from 9 am to 3 pm.
Several dozen antique automobiles are expected to pull up to this annual event, which is presented by the Long Island Sound Region of the Classic Car Club of America in conjunction with the Bayside Historical Society.
Cadillac Eldorado. Ford Model A. Packard. Plymouth Roadrunner. Four-wheelers of all shapes, sizes, colors, and conditions are expected to be on display on the lawn near the Castle at 208 Totten Ave. in Fort Totten.
Admission to the BHS Vintage Car Show is free. To participate, contact Jim Barnes at 917.428.4499 or [email protected].
The rides aren’t the day’s only historic gems. The Castle is an architectural wonder that’s listed on the State and National Registers of Historic Places. (It’s also an NYC designated landmark.) The three-story, wood-framed Gothic Revival mansion has octagonal corner pavilions. Completed in 1887 when Fort Totten was an active military base, the structure served as the Officers’ Mess Hall and Club for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
Currently, it’s the headquarters for the Bayside Historical Society, which maintains the property…and hosts car shows.
