The 77th Tony Awards Ceremony – which recognizes excellence in Broadway theater – will take place at Lincoln Center’s David H. Koch Theater on Sunday, June 16.
It’ll be full of glamor and fetchsome outfits with Oscar- and Golden Globe-winning actress Ariana DeBose as the host. But the fun will be in Astoria, where QED presents its anything goes Tony Awards Watch Party, starting at 7:30 pm.
Broadway Bods, a nonprofit theater company that strives to provide opportunities for performers with larger bodies, will turn this television program into a unique experience with laughs, costumes, performances, and trivia…and a red carpet, of course.
Don’t worry. The actors will behave themselves during the awards ceremony and speeches. They’ll do their thing during commercial breaks.
Admission is $14 in advance, but $20 at the door. Pub-like food will be available for order.
Located at 27-16 23rd Ave., QED is a woman-owned, multipurpose space that hosts everything from markets to workshops to stand-up. The name is an abbreviation of “Quod Erat Demonstrandum,” which is Latin for “That Which Has Demonstrated.”
A Tony, which is short for “The Antoinette Perry Award for Excellence in Broadway Theatre,” is an annual recognition presented by The Broadway League and the American Theatre Wing. Equivalent to the Oscars for film, the Emmys for television, and the Grammys for music, Tonys are awarded for musicals and plays in more than 20 categories, including Best Leading Actor, Best Leading Actress, Best Costume Design, Best Direction, and Best Revival.
