Here’s a great way to glide into the holiday season.
The New York Hall of Science opens SciSkate on Friday, Nov. 29.
This indoor rink features “Glice,” an eco-friendly, polymer-based, ice-like substance that contains internal lubricants that are consistently released as blades pass over the surface, creating a constantly renewed hardness.
All skill and experience levels are welcome, and human aides will always be on hand to help those who are learning. The Hall of Science lends skates, skating aids, and even booties.
General admission to the museum is $22, but children, students, and seniors can attend for $19. SciSkate is an “add-on experience” that costs $10 or $8 for seniors.
The Hall of Science, whose main entrance is 47-01 111th St. in Corona, is open Wednesday to Sunday, from 10 am to 5 pm. A large parking lot is on campus.
Enjoy SciSkate and always feel free to head to the 3D Theatre to watch three great new nature shorts – T. Rex, Jane Goodall: Reasons for Hope 2D, and Incredible Predators.
Founded in 2012 and based in Switzerland and Colorado, Glice builds and maintains several thousand rinks in more than 100 countries, including Azerbaijian, Japan, Mexico, Romania, Tanzania, and UAE. The founders sought to reduce the energy and water needed to produce and refrigerate conventional ice. They went through eight years of research and testing to perfect the zero-water process called “sintering,” which crushes polyethene plastic pellets under high pressure and controlled heat.
