It’s time for a positive strike.
A Flushing bowling center will host a fundraiser to honor a dearly departed Queens journalist on Saturday, Oct. 28, from 11 am to 4 pm.
The event, Strike for a Cure, will support Memorial Sloan Kettering in loving memory of NY 1 anchor Ruschell Boone, who died on Sept. 3.
The $40 entrance fee includes rental shoes and two hours of unlimited bowling. Money raised will fund cancer education, research, and support efforts for patients and their families.
Boone was 48 when pancreatic cancer took her life. Over 21 years at NY1, she won an Emmy, a New York Press Club Award, and special recognition from the New York Association of Black Journalists. She also made countless friends with her warm, outgoing personality.
Born in Jamaica, West Indies, she immigrated to New York City at age 11, eventually graduating from Baruch College. Immediate survivors include husband Todd and sons Carter and Jackson.
JIB Lanes is located at 67-19 Parsons Blvd. in Flushing’s Electchester section. There’s plenty of local parking.
Now in its second year, Strike for a Cure is organized by NYPD’s Community Affairs Youth Strategies Division in partnership with the Municipal Credit Union.
