Two cunning drag queens outwit a self-absorbed empress. What could go wrong?
Get the hilarious, wacky details when PinProductions and Ducky & Patsy present Fairytales for Sophisticated Adults…an Oktoberfest Screening! at Culture Lab LIC on Saturday, Oct. 26, at 4 pm.
This unique event blends drag and animation, bringing to life classic fairytales with a modern, cheeky twist. (A very cheeky twist, that is.)
Admission is free with a request for donations to support this quirky and campy project. Doors open at 3:30 pm.
The fun kicks off with a screening of “Episode 1: The Empress’ New Clothes,” a re-telling of the classic Hans Christian Andersen tale. The empress of a run-down city concludes that the best way to help her people is to throw an extravagant gala to “raise awareness.” Absolutely brilliant, Your Excellency, but two impeccably dressed swindlers offer to make her a gown that only empathetic people can see. Her true character is exposed.
Next up is a live performance of “Episode 2: Gretel & Gretel” starring Ducky & Patsy. This is actually a sneak peak of a longer multimedia extravaganza based on the classic Brothers Grimm fairytale. Set in the German countryside, two naive milkmaids lose their jobs to a machine and end up abandoned in the woods. They stumble upon a train made of sausage conducted by an elusive sausage Queen who offers them employment sitting in a cage and smothering themselves in herbs and spices. Gretel & Gretel learn that the only sure means of job security is seizing the means of production or in this case commandeering the sausage train.
After the show, Ducky & Patsy will meet, greet, and take photos with audience members. Drinks will be served.
Culture Lab, whose entrance is at 5-25 46th Ave., is a multi-genre arts promoter based in The Plaxall Gallery, a 12,000-square-foot venue near the East River. The facility includes two fine art galleries, a 90-seat theater, classrooms, and an outdoor event space.
