Movement. Connection. Community.
Those are the three pillars of Queens Girls Who Walk, whose next excursion is in Alley Pond Park on Sunday, Dec. 29, at 11 am.
Founded by Stancy Saji, the new group aims to meet twice a month for roughly three-mile strolls through different borough parks. (That’s about 5,000 steps for those with smartphones.) Not competitive at all, the focus is to get exercise, build meaningful relationships, and enjoy the Great Outdoors.
“I wanted to do something to promote fitness and community in Queens, and this is a great platform,” said Saji, who works for Northwell Health in Government/Community Relations. “I generally do enjoy people and fostering connections.”
Attendance is free and open to all who identify as female, but please RSVP here and wear comfortable sneakers.
About 25 people participated in the first-ever QGWW jaunt on Dec. 1. Ages ranged from 20-something to 70-something and – as to be expected in Queens – the group was extremely diverse.
The meeting point for Dec. 29 is the Alley Pond Park Parking Lot on the Union Turnpike side. The sponsor is Bango Bowls, so participants will be able to enjoy some healthy snacks as well. (Rose Valley Cakes sponsored the first outing. Saji knows what she’s doing!!!)
