They’re like two peas in a pod.
Queens County Farm Museum recently unveiled a green market at Jamaica Hospital Medical Center’s Axel Building (134-20 Jamaica Ave. in Richmond Hill). To operate on Fridays from 10 am to 3 pm, it’ll sell fresh flowers, fruit, herbs, and vegetables until Nov. 1.
Now in its sixth year, the stand will also host cooking demos, tastings, and health events, while functioning as a food scrap drop-off for composting. Credit cards, debit cards, and cash are accepted in addition to nutrition assistance programs such as SNAP/EBT benefits, WIC, FMNP Checks, Health Bucks, and Fresh Connect Checks.
“This initiative not only provides nutritious food options but also promotes healthy living,” stated Queens Farm Executive Director David Hughes. “Our partnership with Jamaica Hospital Medical Center underscores our commitment to serving Queens residents, and the Jamaica Hospital campus, in addressing fresh food accessibility challenges in the area.”
Is Friday no good for you?
Queens Farm will also run a farmstand on site – 73-50 Little Neck Pkwy. in Glen Oaks – from Wednesday through Sunday from 10 am to 4 pm until Nov. 17
In operation since 1697, Queens Farm is New York City’s largest remaining homestead and only working, undisturbed farm. More than 200 varieties of flowers, fruits, herbs and vegetables grow there, and the 2024 crop includes herbs such as basil, cilantro, dill, and parsley; vegetables like beans, beets, broccolini, cabbage, carrots, chard, collards, cucumbers, eggplant, fennel, garlic, lettuce, kale, okra, onions, peas, peppers, potatoes, radishes, salad turnips, spinach and squash; and fruits such as cantaloupe, strawberries, tomatoes, and watermelons.
