Are Woodside and Jackson Heights waging a Battle of the Bands?

Summer Sundays kicks off with the Jackson Heights Orchestra at Travers Park (78th Street and 34th Avenue) on Sunday, July 7, at 6 pm.

Sponsored by the Jackson Heights Beautification Group, the free annual series will present diverse music weekly until Aug. 25, always at 6 pm. The concerts are scheduled for Travers Park, but the shows will move to Garden School (33-16 79th St.), if it’s raining.

July 21: Sebastian Cruz Quartet (Colombian Rock Fusion)
July 28: Zikrayat (Traditional Arabic music and dance with Flushing Town Hall Deputy Director Sami Abu Shumays)
Aug. 4: Jennifer Wharton’s Bonegasm (Modern Jazz with trombones)
Aug. 11: Guachinangos (Mexican Folk)
Aug. 18: Zac Zinger Group (Contemporary Fusion with a Shakuhachi flute)
Aug. 25: M.A.S. Swing (Big Band)

About a mile to the west, the Chuck Braman Quintet kicks off Free Summer Concerts in the Park with live Jazz at Sergeant Collins Triangle (Broadway and 59th Street) in Woodside on June 27 at 7 pm.

Presented by the Northern Woodside Coalition and Goliard Concerts, these free weekly shows, which start at 7 pm, run on Thursdays until Aug. 8.
