Nebraska will be jealous.
The Queens County Farm Museum hosts Corn Fest on Saturday, Sept. 7, from 11 am to 4 pm. Then, the 47-acre Glen Oaks venue opens the Amazing Maize Maze.
Event highlights include cornhole, corn husking, the Corny Sacavenger Hunt, a Corn Talk Table, Corn Husk Wreath Making, Colonial cornbread tasting and recipes, and demonstrations on how to make corn salsa, corn relish, and corn chowder. (It appears that there’s a theme.)
In other spots, Queens Farm’s official beekeeper, Kathy Scalzo, will present apiary talks, and DJ Malik Work will spin tunes. Jim Emory will lead square dancing sessions, and Barrier Brewing will pour suds for guests (ages 21 and up).
Admission runs from $10 to $14.
Corn Fest also marks the first day of the 21st annual Amazing Maize Maze, which will remain open from Fridays to Sundays through Oct. 26 with Maze by Moonlight options.
Sponsored by Con Edison, this three-acre labyrinth winds through towering stalks of corn and culminates in victory bridge. Participants solve clues, puzzles, and fun facts to learn the best route.
Queens Farm, whose main entrance is at 73-50 Little Neck Pkwy., has a free parking lot. In operation since 1697, the landmark is the Big Apple’s only working, undisturbed farm with livestock, heavy machinery, planting fields, and a vineyard.
“Queens County Farm Museum is excited to present the Amazing Maize Maze, a truly unique New York City experience generously sponsored by our friends at Con Edison,” stated Executive Director David Hughes. “This event kicks off a busy fall season at Queens Farm, and promises not only to challenge and entertain but also to connect our visitors to New York’s rich agricultural history, right here in the heart of the city.”
