Then, Glow Cultural Center’s Mid-Autumn Festival will take place in Flushing’s Kissena Corridor Park in the vicinity of 45th Avenue and Colden Street on Sunday, Oct. 8, from noon to 4 pm.
This free event features various cultural performances, pony rides, games, bouncy houses, giveaways, food stalls, and prizes. Don’t forget the mooncakes!
The Mid-Autumn Festival, which is also known as the Moon Festival or Mooncake Festival, dates back more than 3,000 years in China. Arguably the second most important holiday – after Chinese New Year – it celebrates the harvest and brings good fortune.
As it honors Chang’e, the goddess of the moon in Chinese mythology, partakers traditionally offer mooncakes to friends and family members.
Other Asian countries, such as Japan, Korea, and Vietnam, have similar holidays at this time of year.
