Here’s yet another reason to hitch a ride to Rockaway Beach!
The 19th annual RockStock and Barrels Festival is set to – well – rock the boardwalk in the vicinity of 90th Street and Rockaway Beach Boulevard on Saturday, June 28, starting at 10 am.
Sponsored by St James Clothing, Boarders, and Into the Whip Records, this daylong event – which goes on all night, too, thanks to the after parties – combines surfing, skatboarding, live music, shopping, and food in a family-friendly atmosphere.
Attendance is free with items for sale. Click here for a video that explains it all.
The music starts early. Here’s the lineup.
10 am: SLMBR
11 am: Boulevard Bushmen
noon: The Morning After
1 pm: Glenn Strange
2 pm: The Vibrotones
3 pm: Derecho
4 pm: SAMSARA
5 pm: Ryan Walfisch
The afterparty is a rolling affair that begins at the Beach 97th Concession on the Boardwalk. The fun then follows the groove with the final stop being a dance fest at Connolly’s Bar at 155 Beach 95th St.
An Eastern Surfing Association contest and skateboarding contests are scheduled throughout the day. The shopping village, which will operate from 10 am to 6 pm, consists of several dozen businesses that will sell products and services from pop-up tents.
RockStock is a grassroots festival that Steve and Christian Stathis of Boarders, Jimmy Dowd of St. James NYC, and Walker Hornung of In the Whip Records launched in 2006. These founders also advocated for a skatepark that NYC Parks constructed and opened at Beach 90th Street in 2011.
