#InTheLoop | Two Fun Runs In Queens This Weekend. Costumes Encouraged!

If you want to head straight toward the prize, we got you. If you want to meander past beauty on the way to glory, we got you. If you want to do both, well, we got you, too.

The Sunnyside Post Halloween Mile is on Saturday, Oct. 26. (Rain or shine.)

Now in its eighth year, this friendly race takes off at Skillman Avenue and 43rd Street and proceeds on Skillman to the finish line.

Check-in begins at 8:30 am with the race starting at 10 am.

Halloween costumes, leashed dogs, and strollers are encouraged, and all registered participants get a free Sunnyside Post Mile t-shirt.

Participation costs $25 (seniors pay $20), and proceeds support Sunnyside Community Services, which is celebrating 50 years of service.

The Skillman Dash is set for Skillman Avenue and 45th Street at 10:45 am. The 50-yard contest is for ages two to five, while the 100-yard version is for ages six to nine. ($15.)

The winners in certain age categories receive medals and all dashers receive a ribbon.

Some carbo-loading, a good night’s sleep, and the Totten Trot 5K Foot Race is in Bayside on Sunday, Oct. 27.

This annual fun run starts and finishes at The Castle at 208 Totten Ave. The route goes through a Halloween-themed, waterfront course in Fort Totten Park on Little Neck Bay in Bayside. Runners pass through the historic district, which features buildings dating to the late 1800s, including a Civil War fortress. It includes a loop on Little Bay Path.

Check-in begins at 7:30 am with the kick off at 9 am.

Particpation is $40 on race day, and proceeds support the Bayside Historical Society.

A Kids’ Fun Run, a short-distance sprint for youth up to 12, is set for 10 am.

​Free parking is available at the Little Bay Park lot just outside the Fort Totten entrance.

Editor’s note: The 501st Legion’s Empire City Garrison will make a guest appearance at the Totten Trot so racers can take photos with their favorite Star Wars characters.
