Trash? No! Smash? Yes!
The Astoria Park Pumpkin Smash is on Saturday, Nov. 2, from 1 pm to 3 pm.
Participants can hoist their post-Halloween gourds across Astoria Park using a giant slingshot designed and built by Astoria Woodworkers Collective.
Others can head to the smash zone (a temporary tarp), grab a mallet, and whack away.
The NYC Sanitation Department will gather the detritus in bins and use it as compost around the city.
As always, field games, fact-painting, and a giant Connect Four are part of the fun, but there’s a new twist this year. People are invited to design mini pumpkin launchers, bring them to the event, and test them out. (Participation prizes for all.)
The Pumpkin Smash is scheduled for Astoria Park near the Ditmars Boulevard-19th Street corner. (It might be canceled or re-scheduled due to inclement weather, so pay attention to the Astoria Park Alliance’s social media for updates.)
Organized by APA, the fourth annual Pumpkin Smash receives support from the SL Law Group.
