#PickoftheWeek | Lantern Festival + Lantern Walk in LIC on Feb. 15

It’s not shocking, but it’s certainly illuminating.

Culture Lab LIC’s Lunar New Year Lantern Festival is on Saturday, Feb. 15, at 3 pm.

Under a canopy of glowing lamps, this six-hour extravaganza welcomes the Year of the Snake with traditional and contemporary performances, great food, and a pleasant surprise that might become an annual tradition.

Admission is $12.51 or $39.19 for a family of four.

Lion dances, martial arts demonstrations, and live music will mix with stand-up featuring Crazy Laugh Comedy on a stage. Meanwhile, vendors will sell authentic Asian cuisine and handcrafted, artisanal goods. Some attendees will make lanterns at a DIY lantern-making station.

Then comes the real fun, a Lantern Walk through Long Island City to spread joy and good fortune…and to show off the newly made lamps.

Culture Lab, whose entrance is at 5-25 46th Ave. near the East River, is a multi-genre arts promoter based in The Plaxall Gallery. The 12,000-square-foot facility features two fine art galleries, a 90-seat theater, classrooms, and an outdoor event space.
