#PickoftheWeek | Hot Dogs? No, Thanks! Queens Hosts Pizza-Eating Contest on July 4

Pizza!

Patrick Bertoletti ate 58 franks and buns in 10 minutes to win last year’s Nathan’s Famous International Hot Dog Eating Contest, while Miki Sudo took the women’s division with 51.

They’re so gross over there in Brooklyn! Good thing Queens has grace, class, and sophistication.

Over here in the World’s Most Diverse Borough, Philomena hosts the Second Annual Pizza Eating Contest in Sunnyside on July 4 at 1:45 pm.

This civilized competition involves enthusiasts who consume a pizza pie as fast as possible. No vomiting. No throat pain. No weeks of indigestion.

Last year, Jakub Destefano took first place by enjoying an 18-inch pepperoni pie in 24 minutes and 23 seconds. And he was all smiles as he celebrated his accomplishment (above).

Attendance is free, but the activity’s nature will entice viewers to purchase some slices.

Philomena’s is at 41-16 Queens Blvd. With a light, fermented dough that’s easy to digest and a wide array of toppings — including hot honey — this local landmark is often at the top of citywide and statewide Best Slice lists.
