Get ready for an evening of music, storytelling, and performance that’ll make you understand why Cuban-Americans miss their island so much.
Alex Cuba performs at LeFrak Concert Hall in Flushing on Saturday, March 22, at 8 pm.
The multi-award winner is known for his unique fusion of Folk, Funk, and Rock with Tropical influences. He comes to Queens as part of his No More Empty Words tour, which follows the release of “El Día Más Triste,” a song that explores how pain and betrayal can lead to growth and understanding.
Ticket prices run from $35 to $45.
Born in Cuba with the name Alexis Puentes, this unique performer grew up in a musical family. His father played guitar, while his mother taught piano. From an early age, he would teach himself how to play the bass, forgetting about the outside world until his mother yelled at him that he had to eat. He did it all, but as time passed, he got more interested in Jazz Fusion.
In 1999, he married a Canadian woman and moved to British Columbia, where he started performing with his twin brother Adonis as the Puentes Brothers. In 2004, he embarked on a solo career, becoming known as “Alex Cuba.” So far, so good. He has won two Juno Awards, four Latin Grammys, and a 2022 Grammy Award for Best Latin Pop Album,
LeFrak Concert Hall is located on Queens College’s campus. Its address is 153-49 Reeves Ave., near the intersection of Horace Harding Expressway and Kissena Boulevard. Several free parking lots are nearby.
