#Newsflash | Tango. Flamenco. Cumbia. MoMA PS1 Offers Dance Lessons + Shows on June 28

The 27th annual Warm Up series will present weekly dance parties at MoMA PS1 from July 18 to Aug. 22.

Consider this weekend the warm up to Warm Up.

MoMA PS1 will host the Latin Beats Plaza Festival on Saturday, June 28, at 1:30 pm.

Free and open to the public, the lessons and performances will take place at the triangle where 46th Avenue intersects with Jackson Avenue.

First up is a beginner-friendly Tango and Argentine Folk session with Silvana Brizuela-Weigel. Attendees will learn basic steps, connect with partners, explore the rhythm, and build foundations. Born in Buenos Aires, Brizuela-Weigel can dance, teach, and create choreography. She started at the Escuela Nacional de Danzas and Teatro Colón, where she got a postgraduate degree in ballet. From there, it was on to Teatro Municipal General San Martin.

Then at 2 pm, Flamenco Latino presents Flamenco basics and castanets. Attendees will learn facets of Sevillanas, a six-beat folk dance from Seville in Southern Spain that all major Flamenco troupes perform these days. Founded in 1979, Jackson Heights-based Flamenco Latino performs at restaurants, private parties, corporate events, and professional venues.

The afternoon ends with a one-hour open dance floor starting at 2:30 pm. The special guest is PÚYALOAHÍ, a Sunnyside-based collective dedicated to Colombian Cumbia music.

Street parking is limited in the area, and public transportation is recommended. The closest subway station is Court Square on the E, M, 7, and G lines. The Q67 Bus also stops there.
