#Newsflash | Queens Restaurant Seeks Artists For Community Mural

Let’s go another round!

Frank Ottomanelli has just released a third Request For Proposals for the community mural (#LICMural) at his Hunter’s Point Park South restaurant Frank Ottomanelli’s By The Water

He’s asking artists to submit their ideas for three-foot-high panels of any length that will be added to an existing panorama that wraps around his outside dining area. It’s extremely Instagrammable, he argues, as the Midtown Manhattan skyline and East River are on one side with the burgeoning Long Island City skyline and park amenities on the other. Plus, an NYC Ferry landing is nearby.

Click here to submit a proposal. The deadline is Oct. 18, and then an Advisory Committee will blindly review the proposals with a special eye towards appropriateness and compliance with the “Community Togetherness” theme and share their picks by Nov. 1.

Ottomanelli, who also owns F. Ottomanelli’s Burgers & Belgian Fries in Woodside, emphasizes that everybody — amateurs, emerging artists, seasoned professionals, etc. — should apply and he’s seeking representation from the LGBTQ, immigrant, and minority communities. First priority goes to Western Queens residents and students. Those who live and/or work in other parts of the borough also get VIP consideration.

Each selectee receives $500 and reimbursement for all materials (ie. exterior paint, brushes, MDO board) used in the project. Plus, artists and their pieces will be featured in a press release, unveiling event, and It’s in Queens social media. (Artists are encouraged to create their murals on-site so the public can watch their creative processes.)

As mentioned, this is a continuation. Pieces by such artsts as Talisa Almonte, Victoria Nieto, Annabelle Popa, Kerri Boccard, and Adela Navarro are already on display.
