Who is this Bard of Avon guy and why does Jim Haines want you to like him?
Get answers to these burning questions at The Crackpot Shakespeare Theories, Volume 1, which is playing in Ridgewood from Friday, June 28, to Sunday, June 30.
In this one-man play, a middle-aged actor reflects on his life’s stories and choices, while pondering questions about the universe. Sometimes brash, sometimes hilarious, the work takes the audience through Shakespeare’s canon, while demonstrating that the famous playwright is often misunderstood…and he can save people’s lives.
Tickets cost $15, and showtimes are June 28 and 29 at 8 pm, and June 30 at 3 pm.
The Crackpot Shakespeare Theories was written by Jim Haines, who also performs it. Erin Layton is the director, while Julie Kline is the developer.
The show is a triumph of hyper-local art groups. It will take place at the Stone Circle Theatre, which is also Ridgewood Presbyterian Church, at 59-14 70th Ave. It’s presented by City Gate Productions, which was founded in December 2021 by married couple Virginia and Thom Harmon in Forest Hills. They collaborate with small theaters around Queens. Past productions include The Christians, Lobby Hero, and Rabbit Hole.
There is parking on the street.
