#Newsflash | Pick, Prepare, Eat, Enjoy! Two Queens Events Focus on Tomatoes this Weekend

Some people say they’re vegetables, while others insist they’re fruits or berries. However, everybody agrees that tomatoes are delicious.

And as late August is peak harvest season in the region, Queens is preparing for two tomato-centric events this week.

First up is Tomatoes: A Summer Celebration at Queens County Farm Museum on Saturday, Aug. 24, at 6 pm.

Participants walk through the Glen Oaks growing fields to check out and hand pick the German Johnson, Orange Brandywine, Sungold, and other varieties. They learn about history, cultivation, and harvesting.

Then it’s off to a tasting table, where attendees will learn about preparations and uses before enjoying a tomato-themed buffet with summer beverages.

General admission is $40, and the farm’s entrance is 73-50 Little Neck Parkway. There’s a free parking lot on site.

A few hours to digest, and then Tomato Shack starts at M. Wells on Sunday, Aug. 25, at 2 pm.

As the name suggests, tomatoes are the main feature of this feast, but patrons can expect long tables full of charcuterie, fish, fruit, pasta, salad, tartines, tarts, terrines, and veggies. They’ll also get to take home some sauces.

Tickets cost $125. Click here to reserve a spot.

M. Wells is at 43-15 Crescent St. in Long Island City. Street parking is limited, but the restaurant is near the Court Square/23rd Street (E, M, 7 trains) and Queensboro Plaza (N, W lines) stations. Bicycle racks are outside.
